Mountaineers sink Vikings, enter 1A state playoffs as No. 3 seed

LEDGER — The Mitchell High varsity football team closed the regular season on a high note by winning 47-21 at Western Highlands Conference rival Avery on Friday, April 9.  The Mountaineers finish the shortened regular season 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the Western Highlands Conference.

Softball team wins pair to start season 2-0

LEDGER — The Mitchell High varsity softball team started its season on a high note by earning a pair of wins on Tuesday, March 16 over Hampton High. The Mountaineers (2-0) won 8-1 over the Bulldogs in the first game of the doubleheader and followed with an 8-4 victory in the second contest.

4 Mountaineers earn All-District honors

LEDGER — Mitchell High School’s varsity basketball teams are well-represented on the All-District 12 list for the shortened 2021 season.  Senior Paige Johnson earned first-team honors while fellow seniors Marley Cloer and Jill Pittman garnered third-team honors.

Mountaineers ride rushing attack to convincing conference win

LEDGER — Powered by more than 350 rushing yards, the Mitchell High varsity football team improved to 3-0 Friday, March 12 with a 42-14 win over visiting Owen. The game was the first of five Western Highlands Conference contests for Mitchell this regular season.

LEDGER — The Mitchell High varsity football team got off to a strong start with a 14-7 win over visiting 3A Statesville on Friday, Feb. 26.  The Mountaineers (1-0) outgained the Greyhounds 301-147 on a cold, rainy night in Ledger.

Executive order will increase high school venue capacities

RALEIGH — North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper announced Wednesday, Feb. 24 that restrictions on crowd limits at high school sporting events will be eased via a new executive order that will allow outdoor venues to operate at 30 percent capacity effective Friday, Feb. 26 at 5 p.m.
