Mitchell senior Jill Pittman adds second college offer

Mitchell High School’s Jill Pittman has her second offer to play college basketball after graduation from Brenau University in Gainesville, GA.  Pittman announced her first college offer from Division III Agnes Scott College (Decatur, GA) this past August.

Local golfers take home hardware during second annual Founders Day Tournament

SPRUCE PINE — The team of Lane Rosenfield, Neal Kepner, Alex Pittman and Nick Westmoreland won the first place finish for the first flight Saturday, Aug. 15 during the second annual Founders Day Golf Tournament at Grassy Creek Golf and Country club.

Bakersville cyclist sets sights on record

Bakersville resident Marc Poland is aiming to break a cycling world record. On Tuesday, Aug. 25, Poland, 62, will attempt to break the current world record for “masters” cyclists (those over 50 years old) in an individual time trial.  It is a solo ride of 62 miles at Bristol Motor Speedway.
