BURNSVILLE – The Mitchell High School junior varsity girls’ basketball team completed an undefeated season Friday, Feb. 21, by winning the Western Highlands Conference championship 55-39 over Mountain Heritage in Burnsville.

    BURNSVILLE – The Mitchell High School junior varsity boys’ basketball team closed its season on a high note Friday, Feb. 21, by earning the Western Highlands Conference crown after downing conference tournament host Mountain Heritage 48-45 in overtime in the championship game.

Lowery is state runner-up for second-straight year

    GREENSBORO – A pair of Mitchell senior wrestlers, Dylan Lowery and Samuel Shook, qualified for the NCHSAA Individual Wrestling Championships this past weekend in Greensboro. Dylan Lowery (120 pounds) and Samuel Shook (220 pounds) both competed in the tournament.

MOUNT AIRY – Mitchell High School wrestlers Dylan Lowery and Samuel Shook are headed to the State 1A Individual Championship after strong efforts this past weekend at the 1A West Regional Finals at Mount Airy High School.

McKinney makes it official

LEDGER – More big plays are still to come for Tyler McKinney.  The 6-foot 2-inch, 200-pound Mitchell High School senior will play college football at Division I Gardner-Webb University in Boiling Springs after he graduates in May.

Wrestlers fare well at conference tourney

LEDGER – Several members of the Mitchell High School wrestling team finished in the top three this past week at the Western Highlands Conference Wrestling Tournament at Mitchell. “We had our ups-and-downs,” said Ed Duncan, Mitchell head wrestling coach.
