Bakersville man charged with indecent liberties

Ryan Henry Hoyle, 44, of Bakersville was arrested last week and charged with indecent liberties with a minor – a felony. Hoyle reportedly helped out as a volunteer with a local youth soccer team in the past.

Hoyle has been charged by both the Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office and the Spruce Pine Police Department.

“Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a possible crime that may have occurred involving a juvenile,” stated a sheriff’s office release. “During a discussion of the event, it was determined that the crime could have occurred within the city limits of Spruce Pine.”

Mitchell County officers worked with Spruce Pine officers to conduct the investigation.

“As a result of that investigation, Spruce Pine charged Hoyle with two counts of indecent liberties against a minor, and Mitchell County Detective Austin Duncan charged Hoyle with an additional count of indecent liberties that occurred in the county.”

In a public statement, the Mitchell County government confirmed that Hoyle is a former volunteer with Mitchell County Parks & Recreation.

According to the county, Hoyle had assisted with sports teams in the past, and the county conducted a background check that did not reveal any information that would disqualify him from serving in that capacity.

Hoyle is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 23. His bond is set at $150,000.
