Mountaineers prepare for stout opening week challenge

LEDGER — The Mitchell High varsity football team will welcome a tough opponent to Ledger for the 2021 regular season opener on Friday, Feb. 26.  Statesville High, a 3A program that competes in the North Piedmont 3A conference, comes calling in Week 1.

Mitchell girls roll on to 12-0 record

LEDGER — The Mitchell High varsity girls’ basketball team kept its perfect season intact with a pair of double-digit wins this past week.  The Mountaineers moved to 12-0 on the season, including 9-0 in Western Highlands Conference play, by winning 73-39 at Madison on Tuesday, Feb.

Mountaineers split pair of home games, move to 5-5

LEDGER — The Mitchell High School varsity boys’ basketball team split a pair of home games against Owen and Mountain Heritage this past week.  The Mountaineers (5-5) beat Owen 71-63 on Wednesday, Feb. 3 and fell to Heritage 53-45 on Thursday, Feb. 4.

Mitchell girls move to 10-0 with pair of wins

LEDGER — The Mitchell High varsity girls’ basketball team just keeps on rolling.  The Mountaineers won a pair of home games this past week over Owen and Mountain Heritage to improve to 10-0.  Eight of the team’s 10 wins have come by double digits.

Mitchell boys win fourth straight, move to 4-4

LEDGER — The Mitchell High School varsity boys’ basketball team is picking up steam.  After starting the season 0-4, the Mountaineers have now ripped off four straight wins to move to 4-4.  Mitchell kept its winning streak alive with a pair of wins over Polk and Avery this past week.

Mitchell girls continue perfect start

LEDGER — The Mitchell High School varsity girls’ basketball team continued its perfect start to the season with two blowout wins over Polk and Avery this past week.  The Mountaineers (8-0) first routed Polk 57-34 on the road on Tuesday, Jan. 26.

LEDGER — The Mitchell High School varsity girls’ basketball team keeps on rolling.  The Mountaineers (6-0) continued their unblemished start to the shortened season by earning a pair of double-digit wins over Madison and Smoky Mountain and a win over rival Mountain Heritage this past week.

LEDGER — The Mitchell High School varsity girls’ basketball team continued its strong start by registering a pair of wins this past week over R-S Central and Owen.  The Mountaineers (3-0) beat visiting R-S Central 52-45 on Wednesday, Jan.

Harris boys roll to four consecutive wins

SPRUCE PINE — The Harris Middle School boys’ basketball team surged its way to four straight wins earlier this month over Bowman, Avery, Cranberry and East Yancey.  The Blue Devils on Jan. 5 beat Bowman 59-45 and then notched a 59-33 road win at Avery on Jan. 7.

LEDGER — The Mitchell High varsity girls’ basketball team started its season on a high note by winning its season opener on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 55-41 at Smoky Mountain.
