FOOTBALL: Mitchell's season ends at Draughn

The season is over for the Mitchell High varsity football team after a 35-10 loss at Draughn on Friday, Nov. 11 in the second round of the 1A state playoffs. The Mountaineers end the season 8-4 overall. The team won its first-round game over South Davidson in Ledger.

VOLLEYBALL: Bethel wins state championship

The Bethel Christian Academy varsity volleyball team on Saturday, Oct. 29 won the North Carolina Christian School Athletic Association Division 4 private school state championship in Monroe. T he team beat Victory Christian in five sets to secure the hardware.

Mountaineers tame Tigers

The Mitchell High varsity football team on Friday, Oct. 21 dismantled conference foe Rosman 56-6 on Senior Night in Ledger. On a very cold night in Ledger, the Mountaineers (6-3, 4-1) came out hot. Senior Gage Young returned the opening kickoff for an 84-yard touchdown to make it 7-0.

Mitchell High sophomore Ivy Young was named Western Highlands Conference Player of the Year for the 2022 fall season of girls’ golf. Young collected four individual victories in Western Highlands Conference matches during the season.

The Draughn High varsity football team continued its strong season and pushed its winning streak to four games with a 56-21 home win over Mitchell on Thursday, Sept. 29 in a game moved up one day due to Hurricane Ian.

The Mitchell High varsity football team on Friday, Sept 23 handled conference foe Owen 49-26 on homecoming night. Mitchell (4-2, 2-0) started fast with senior Gage Young taking a 9-yard carry for an early touchdown.
