Veteran receives Quilt of Valor

SPRUCE PINE — The Brian Center honored its resident veterans Monday, Nov. 11, at a special Veterans Day ceremony.  Brian Center Administrator Shelley Tinsley welcomed the guests and then turned the presentation over to Shannon Tipton, who led a time of live, patriotic music.

COUNTY COMMISSIONERS: Board gets positive audit report

BAKERSVILLE – The Mitchell County Board of Commissioners during its regular meeting Monday, Nov. 4, received some good news about its fiscal year 2018-19 audit.
Mitchell County DSS Director Sara Ross said Monday, Nov. 4, during a meeting of the DSS Board more than 200 people, 40 vendors and 200 vendor participants attended the Medicaid Transformation and Community Resource Fair Saturday, Nov. 2, at Mitchell High School, during which 74 people were screened for enrollment and 67 were enrolled. Community Resource Fair successful

BAKERSVILLE – The Mitchell County Department of Social Services was among the first in the state of North Carolina to host an event to educate residents about Medicaid Transformation.  Mitchell County DSS Director Sara Ross said Monday, Nov.
John Williams and his wife, Whitney, arrange inflatable bouncy houses inside their new business, Wren and Wrae’s Clubhouse, at 218 Oak Ave. in Spruce Pine.  The clubhouse offers inflatables, toys and other options for children while Whitney, a personal trainer, will use part of the building to host a variety of exercise classes for adults. SPRUCE PINE – It all began when a Raleigh-based business gave them two large children’s bouncy houses after it closed. “These things are huge,” said John Williams. “We have a T-Rex and a King Kong that are 30 feet long.

McMurray inducted into Mars Hill University’s Alpha Chi Honor Society

MARS HILL – Kaylee Erin McMurray, of Spruce Pine, was inducted Nov. 1 into the North Carolina Epsilon Chapter 120 of Alpha Chi Honor Society at Mars Hill University in the fall semester of 2019 during a ceremony.
