Greenlee finalizes School Improvement Plan

SPRUCE PINE – Greenlee Primary School has finalized its school improvement plan, which Principal Jason Hall and his school improvement team presented to the Mitchell County Board of Education Thursday, Nov. 21, at its regular meeting.

BRPC gets grant to expand Health Families

The Blue Ridge Partnership for Children, or BRPFC, announced in a press release the receipt of an AMY Wellness Foundation grant. BRPFC applied for the funding to expand the home-visitation Healthy Families program into Avery County.

Website ranks Mayland in top 10 nationally

SPRUCE PINE – Mayland Community College has been ranked in the top 10 in the nation by the website thebestschools.org.  The website compiled its list of “The 50 Best Community Colleges in the United States” and ranked Mayland at No. 10.

NC Environmental Secretary stops in Spruce Pine

SPRUCE PINE – North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality Sec. Michael Regan was in Spruce Pine this past week to conclude a three-day trip to Western North Carolina that included stops in Avery, Mitchell, McDowell and Rutherford counties.

Hale named CEO of Blue Ridge Regional

SPRUCE PINE – After Blue Ridge Regional Hospital CEO Becky Carter announced she is leaving the hospital in the near future, Mission Health announced Tonia W. Hale, DNP, MAOM, BSN, RN, is replacing her effective Dec. 16.
