SPRUCE PINE – Shoppers braved cold, rainy conditions Saturday, Nov. 30, to enjoy Small Business Saturday festivities in downtown Spruce Pine.  The day was dedicated to supporting local merchants as visitors were encouraged to shop local for holiday gifts and other goods.

SPRUCE PINE – Three Avery County business people now own the Chevrolet Dealership located at 36 Chevrolet Boulevard in the Grassy Creek Community of Spruce Pine. Robert Vance Houston, his wife, Debra, and their grandson, Denver Maltba, purchased the dealership this fall.

LEDGER – The Mitchell Yancey Substance Abuse Task Force and Appalachian Youth to Youth Tuesday, Nov. 19, hosted the “Mitchell County Communities Talk Town Hall on Vaping and Underage Drinking” in the Kathy Miller Auditorium at Mitchell High School.

Site of new school could change again

LEDGER – The Mitchell County Board of Education will move forward with an architectural site study to determine the feasibility of building a new school on the Greene property in Ledger across from the Mitchell County Schools Central Office.
