Storyteller

The Center for Pioneer Life is hosting storyteller Donald Davis for a performance at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, at the Burnsville Town Center. The Rural Transportation Coordinating Committee of the High Country RPO is having a meeting at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, at the High Country Council of Governments building, 468 New Market Boulevard in Boone. The meeting is open to the public.

Thanksgiving meal

The Neighbors Feeding Neighbors Food Ministry is hosting a Thanksgiving meal from 4-8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, at Central Baptist Church, 431 Oak Ave. in Spruce Pine. Youth night

Bethel Baptist Church is hosting a Youth Night full of worship, fellowship and fun beginning at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, at the church, 12021 US 19E in Spruce Pine. The evening starts with volleyball and then moves into a time of worship and preaching. Participants are encouraged to bring a change of clothes for the worship service. Students in sixth-grade through college are encouraged to attend. Dinner will be provided.

 

Winter concert

The Mitchell County Concert Band Winter Concert is 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, in the Kathy Miller Auditorium at Mitchell High School. Admission is free, but donations are accepted.

 

Tree-lighting ceremony

The town of Bakersville Holiday Lighting Ceremony is 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, at the Historic Courthouse.

 

Christmas concert

The town of Bakersville Christmas Concert is 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, at Bowman Middle School.

 

Meet-and-greet

Spruced Boutique, 171 Locust St. in downtown Spruce Pine, is hosting a meet-and-greet from 10 a.m.-noon during Small Business Saturday on Nov. 30 with the Miss Emerald Ridge and Miss Emerald Ridge Outstanding Teen competition winners.

 

‘Santa for Seniors’

WAMY Community Action is having a “Santa for Seniors” gift drive to provide presents for shut-ins and hospice patients in Mitchell County. Gift-wrapped boxes containing crossword puzzles, winter socks with grips, lotions and balms, non-homemade treats, blankets, winter accessories, holiday toiletries, books and slippers are requested. Boxes may be dropped off between 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Dec. 2-16 at WAMY Community Action, 496-A Balsam Ave. in Spruce Pine.

 

Youth bash

Little Rock Creek Baptist Church, 48 Green Creek Road in Bakersville, is hosting a Youth Bash at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, with a devotion, food and crafts. Everyone is welcome.

The town of Bakersville Christmas Parade is 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, on Main Street.

 

Ornament Make-and-Take

An “Ornament Make-and-Take” is 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, upstairs at the Historic Courthouse in Bakersville as part of the Christmas ‘Neath the Roan slate of events. Letters to Santa

A “Letters to Santa” event is 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, upstairs at the Historic Courthouse in Bakersville as part of the Christmas ‘Neath the Roan slate of events. Children can create their own letters to Santa and place them in the Christmas mailbox outside Southern Ridge Cafe. Candy Cane Hunt

A “Candy Cane Hunt” is 1:30-2:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Bakersville Creek Walk as part of the Christmas ‘neath the Roan slate of events. Health coverage event

Pisgah Legal Services in Spruce Pine is hosting an ACA marketplace open enrollment health coverage event from 4:30-7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 9, at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital in Spruce Pine. Certified navigators will be available to provide education and enrollment assistance. Walk-ins are welcome, but an appointment guarantees a slot. Board of Education

The Mitchell County Board of Education meets at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, at the Central Office in Ledger.

 

Annie Kids

The Mitchell High School Performing Arts presents “Annie Kids” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12-14; and 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, at the Kathy Miller Auditorium at Mitchell High School.

 

Ice skating

An outdoor “synthetic” ice-skating rink will be located on Upper Street in downtown Spruce Pine Saturday, Dec. 14, and Sunday, Dec. 15. This is a free event (skates included) sponsored by the town of Spruce Pine. Call Spruce Pine Main Street at 828-765-3008 for more information.

 

“Grinch at Greenelee”

There is a “The Grinch at Greenlee” night at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, at Greenlee Primary School.  The doors will open and 5 p.m. and the movie begins at 5:30 p.m. There will be a Christmas craft fair with items made by the students for sale. There will be food and drinks, along with a decorate-your-own Christmas cookie station.
