Phil Kenneth Tipton

BAKERSVILLE – Phil Kenneth Tipton, formerly of Bee Branch Rd., Bakersville, NC went home to be with the Lord July 7, 2020. Phil was a native of Mitchell County, NC and a son of the late Burl and Effie Bryant Tipton. Phil was a United States Marine Corp Veteran serving in the Korean War.

Agnes Ann Pieper

Agnes Ann Pieper died on July 9, 2020 at the age of 95 in Durham, NC. She was born in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania.  After the death of her father, Agnes’s mother moved to Miami, Fla. where Agnes lived from 9 years of age until she was married.

Maude Self Hughes

SPRUCE PINE – Maude Self Hughes, age 81, of Old Laurel Way in Spruce Pine, the Little Switzerland community, went to be with  her Lord and Savior on Thursday, July 9, 2020.   Born on July 26, 1938 in Mitchell County, she was the daughter of the late Willard and Louise Collis Self.

Charles Edward Silver

ALTAPASS – Charles Edward Silver, 92, passed away Saturday, May 16, 2020, at Mission Hospital. Charles was born October 4, 1927, in Altapass, Mitchell County, NC to the late Paul Edwin and Texas Marie Stewart Silver.

Chuck Pendley

Chuck Pendley, age 58, of Spruce Pine, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 30, 2020 at Care Partners Solace Center.  A native of Mitchell County, he was a son of the late Jack Pendley and Lorainne Huskins Gilbert.  He was also preceded in death by brothers: Larry, Joey and Billy Pendley.

Shirley Asa

NORTH WILKESBORO – Mrs. Asa was born in the Hollis community of Rutherford County, North Carolina on July 18, 1936 to John D. Withrow, Sr. and Dorothy Moore Withrow.   She was a member of First Baptist Church of North Wilkesboro.

Bobby Whetstine

MARION – Bobby Whetstine, age 66, of the Woodlawn community in Marion died June 1, 2020 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN.    Born on January 19, 1954 in Mitchell County, he was the son of the late Paul and Faye McClellan Whetstine.

Linda Foster Vesely

   SPRUCE PINE – Linda (Foster) Vesely, 75, of Spruce Pine, North Carolina, died peacefully on Friday, June 5, 2020. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.     Linda was born in Newport News, Virginia on Dec. 7, 1944, to the late Stuart Arthur Foster and Margaret Yeatman Foster.

David Jared Johnson

ABINGDON, VA – David Jared Johnson, age 43, of Abingdon, VA, passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2020 at Johnston Memorial Hospital from an extended battle with a blood disorder and several bouts of pneumonia.

Beatrice "Bea" Chereshkoff

Beatrice (Bea) Chereshkoff was born Beatrice Marie Biringer, on Dec. 3, 1926, in Elizabeth, NJ and grew up in Kenilworth, NJ.     Bea was a playful child who got in trouble for stomping in rain puddles on her way home from school.
