Old Crow Medicine Show set for Saturday

Concert benefits hurricane relief and recovery efforts

Hilloween will host a benefit concert Saturday, Oct. 25, featuring Old Crow Medicine Show and opening act Bandana Rhythm.

Concert tickets are $30 and proceeds will benefit the Mitchell County Development Foundation’s hurricane recovery and rebuilding efforts.

Last year, the annual multi-day Hilloween festival was canceled owing to the destruction caused by Hurricane Helene (downgraded to a tropical storm after slowing down over land).

Hilloween will cover the costs of this Saturday’s concert, allowing all proceeds from ticket sales to go to hurricane recovery.

The concert will be at 6:30 p.m. (doors open at 5:30 p.m.) Saturday at the Three Peaks Enrichment Center, located at 97 Pine Bridge Ave. in Spruce Pine. Old Crow Medicine Show will go on stage at 7:30 p.m.

Organizers recommend that fans get to the venue early to find a good spot to see the stage, and note that this is a standing event.

Old Crow Medicine Show is an Americana string band from Nashville, Tenn. that has been recording since 1998. The band’s ninth album won a grammy and they were inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in 2013.

Bandana Rhythm describes itself as a “family band” that plays music from a wide variety of genres.

Tickets for the concert are available either from www.hilloweennc.org or from www.crowmedicine.com.

According to event organizers, MCDF has already distributed more than $1.2 million to businesses in Mitchell County that were affected by the storm.  In addition to purchasing tickets, those interested can help with the storm-relief effort by volunteering at the show, details can be found on the Hilloween website on the “Get Involved” tab or by donating directly to MCDF: www.hilloweennc.org/donate.
