ABINGDON, VA – David Jared Johnson, age 43, of Abingdon, VA, passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2020 at Johnston Memorial Hospital from an extended battle with a blood disorder and several bouts of pneumonia.
A native of Mitchell County, he was a son of James and Dorothy “Dot” Harrell Johnson of Bakersville. He was preceded in death by a brother, Douglas Johnson; maternal grandparents, Harlan and Betty Jean Harrell and paternal grandparents, R.S. and Lorene Johnson. David enjoyed reading, cooking and making people laugh.
Surviving in addition to his parents, James and Dot is his brother, Jonathan Johnson of Bakersville. Several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
David lived in Abingdon, VA for the last 15 years, making numerous friends that have become family. Special friends Helen, Harley and Melissa also survive as well as many more.
Funeral services were held June 18, at 7 p.m. in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Ronnie Gouge and Rev. Brandon Harrell will officiated. Private burial was in the Green-Young Cemetery.
