BAKERSVILLE – Phil Kenneth Tipton, formerly of Bee Branch Rd., Bakersville, NC went home to be with the Lord July 7, 2020. Phil was a native of Mitchell County, NC and a son of the late Burl and Effie Bryant Tipton. Phil was a United States Marine Corp Veteran serving in the Korean War. He retired from Bethlehem Steel Manufacturing in Baltimore, Maryland where he lived for many years before retiring to his beloved mountains in Bakersville, NC. For the last year he made his home at The Cranberry House where they took excellent care of him. Phil was a member of Brummitts Creek Church of The Brethren and he enjoyed attending the Mitchell County Seniors Center. Phil loved to sing, and could often be found singing with the group he loved The Golden Age Singers. He also was an avid NACAR and college basketball fan.

Left behind to cherish his memory are one daughter Kristi Carpenter, of Hickory, NC, one granddaughter Morgan Carpenter, also of Hickory, NC, two sisters Mary Vinson, of Bakersville, NC, and Helen Street, of Ocean Isle, SC, one brother Tony Tipton, of Jonesboro, TN, one stepsister Penny Street, and his companion Ellen Huskins, of Altamonte Springs, Florida.

He was preceded in death in addition to his parents by his wife Carol Hunt Tipton, two sisters Susie McKinney and Doris Hughes, one daughter Melody Booker Wilkins, and one grandson Andrew Michael Booker. Graveside services were held Sunday, July 12, 2020 at 2 p.m. at Masters Cemetery on Bee Branch Rd., Bakersville, NC with John Smith officiating.Memorials may be made to the charity of ones own choosing.
