MARION – Bobby Whetstine, age 66, of the Woodlawn community in Marion died June 1, 2020 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN.

   Born on January 19, 1954 in Mitchell County, he was the son of the late Paul and Faye McClellan Whetstine.  Bobby was a graduate of Harris High School and was a member of the Harris High School Blue Devils football team.  

   Bobby was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force where he served as a ground support mechanic.  He was retired from Griffith Painting Company with thirty years of service.  He was a well-known sports enthusiast with a great wealth of knowledge of all sports and he kept up with their players, coaches, and stats.  He was an avid supporter of Mitchell Mountaineer Football.  He loved all of his family unconditionally and enjoyed family get togethers.  

   Left to cherish his memories are his brothers; Phillip Whetstine and wife, Verna of Bakersville and Daniel Whetstine and wife, Joannie of Burnsville; his twin sister; Barbara Snyder and husband, Jay of Marion and sister; Phyllis Ollis of Marion; his nephews; Nathan Snyder and wife, Cortney, Michael Ollis, and Jeff Whetstine.

   Memorial services will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2020 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Webb Funeral Home with the Rev. David Edwards officiating.  The family received friends on Saturday, June 20, 2020 from 1 until 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Webb Funeral Home.  Interment will be in the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors.

   The family would like to extend ‘Special Thanks’ to the Vanderbilt University Medical Center for their care and concern for Bobby during his illness.
