School district victim of cyberattack

LEDGER – Mitchell County Public Schools learned Friday, March 27, it was the subject of a ransomware cyberattack. The school district’s technology team immediately started assessing damages and executing safeguards to contain the attack and prevent further incidents.

OBITUARY: Joanne McFalls

Joanne Phillips Hoilman McFalls, 59, of Cane Creek Road, Bakersville, passed away March 23, 2020. She was a native of Mitchell County and the daughter of the late Ernest and Mary Ann Hoilman Phillips. She was previously employed as a CNA at Brian Center Health and Rehab in Spruce Pine.

Marguerite Johnson Barksdale, 99, of Kaywillia Lane, Spruce Pine, died Friday, March 27, 2020, at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation in Spruce Pine. Born June 21, 1920, in Gibson, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Wayman and Nellie Neal Johnson.
