COUNTY COMMISSIONERS: Public comments taken in closed session

Green to head MCHP dental clinic

    BAKERSVILLE – Mountain Community Health Partnership, or MCHP, is pleased to announce plans to open a dental clinic in Bakersville this coming spring. Renovations are currently underway in the Bakersville Community Health Center Annex, located across the street from the health center.

BAKERSVILLE – The Mitchell County Board of Commissioners has called for an independent review of the Mitchell County Department of Social Services. The commissioners unanimously approved the decision to initiate the review Monday, March 2, during the board’s regular meeting.

BAKERSVILLE – The Mitchell County Board of Commissioners has selected Lifeguard Ambulance Service as the county’s next EMS provider.  The board approved the decision Monday, March 2, during its regular meeting.  The board met with representatives from Lifeguard and Mitchell Medics Friday, Feb.

Hundreds attend Penland Community Open House

    PENLAND – Several hundred guests braved a chilly, blustery day to get hands-on with art Saturday, Feb. 29, during the annual Penland School of Craft Community Open House.  The free event opens the doors of Penland’s studios to the public.

Traffic stop leads to arrests for drugs, weapons

    SPRUCE PINE – Two people are facing multiple charges after a traffic stop and subsequent home search yielded illegal drugs and weapons.  Mitchell County Sheriff’s Deputy David Buchanan stopped a black Toyota truck Wednesday, Feb. 19, on Altapass Highway for erratic driving.
