Traffic stop leads to arrests for drugs, weapons

 

 

SPRUCE PINE – Two people are facing multiple charges after a traffic stop and subsequent home search yielded illegal drugs and weapons. 

Mitchell County Sheriff’s Deputy David Buchanan stopped a black Toyota truck Wednesday, Feb. 19, on Altapass Highway for erratic driving. After the stop, it was discovered the driver, Clifford Ali Biddix, 23, of 86 Wagon Master Trailer Park No. 2, Spruce Pine, was driving on a suspended license.

Biddix consented to a search of the vehicle, which was registered to a juvenile passenger. During the vehicle search, Buchanan discovered a large enough amount of a schedule II narcotic under the driver’s seat to charge Biddix with trafficking as well as found a stolen handgun. 

After conducting interviews, a search warrant was obtained for Biddix’s residence. Several deputies executed the search warrant looking for other weapons and drugs. Deputies did not find any guns but did find 148 grams of packaged marijuana, Xanax, pain medication and other drugs. 

Biddix was charged with level three felony trafficking methamphetamine, felony possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver, felony possession of marijuana, felony trafficking opium, felony possession with the intent to manufacture, sell and deliver a schedule III controlled substance, felony possession of a schedule II controlled substance, felony possession of stolen firearm, felony maintaining vehicle for a controlled substance, two counts of misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and misdemeanor carrying a concealed gun. He was issued a $188,000 bond and scheduled to appear in court on March 11.

Kyleigh Wilson, 18, of Meadow View Road, Spruce Pine, was arrested at the residence after the search warrant was executed. She was charged with felony possession with the intent to manufacture, sell and deliver marijuana, felony possession of marijuana, felony trafficking methamphetamine and misdemeanor possession of marijuana paraphernalia. She was issued a $30,000 bond and scheduled to appear in court on March 11.

The juvenile owner of the vehicle was taken into custody by the North Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice.
