If local resident Terry Jamerson doesn’t receive a kidney soon, he might only have months left to live. After suffering a “widow-maker” heart attack in February, Jamerson found out his high blood pressure had severely damaged his kidneys. “I thought the heart attack was gonna take me,” he said.

NCHSAA moves football to February, shortens other seasons

Weekend craft market showcases artisans

SPRUCE PINE — The Cross Street Commerce Center was alive with activity Friday, July 31 and Saturday, Aug. 1 during the Rock Hound Craft and Vintage Market.  The event, which was open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Annual Apple Butter Festival canceled

BAKERSVILLE — The 2020 Mitchell County Historical Society Apple Butter Festival originally scheduled for Oct. 17 in Bakersville has been canceled.  The Mitchell County Historical Society said in a Facebook post that the decision was made with safety in mind.
