Bakersville Fire and Rescue started construction earlier this month on a new permanent substation for their rural Rhododendron Fire District at the intersection of 4500 Block Highway and Water Street in Bakersville.
The substation is being built on a 1.95 acre tract of land donated to the department by current member and former Chief Edd Silver.
The department thanks Silver for his contribution.
The substation is scheduled to be completed in 2021 and will be funded partially by the North Carolina State Fire Grant.
The substation will allow the department to continue to provide adequate fire and rescue protection to the Bandana community and their whole district.
