Local golfers take home hardware during second annual Founders Day Tournament

SPRUCE PINE — The team of Lane Rosenfield, Neal Kepner, Alex Pittman and Nick Westmoreland won the first place finish for the first flight Saturday, Aug. 15 during the second annual Founders Day Golf Tournament at Grassy Creek Golf and Country club.

The Grove Church finds new permanent home

SPRUCE PINE — The Grove Church of Spruce Pine has settled into its new home on Upper Street in downtown Spruce Pine.  The church, which was founded in 2016 to serve Mitchell County and the surrounding areas, held its first worship services in the new space on Sunday, Aug. 16.

Grassy Creek Gem Show marches on with pandemic modifications

Amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the Parkway Fire and Rescue Department held its annual Grassy Creek Gem and Mineral Show as scheduled this past week in the field above Spruce Pine Chevrolet.

Weekend craft market showcases artisans

SPRUCE PINE — The Cross Street Commerce Center was alive with activity Friday, July 31 and Saturday, Aug. 1 during the Rock Hound Craft and Vintage Market.  The event, which was open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Event Center aiming to become popular local venue

SPRUCE PINE — The building that housed Mountaineer Auction in Spruce Pine has been repurposed into an event hosting space called The Event Center.  Husband and wife Keith and Dawn Johnson have owned the building for several years.

TOWN OF SPRUCE PINE: Appearance Commission moving forward

    SPRUCE PINE – The town of Spruce Pine’s community appearance commission is closer to becoming a reality.  The Spruce Pine Town Council, at its regular meeting Tuesday, Feb. 11, discussed its progress in establishing a local appearance commission.

NC Environmental Secretary stops in Spruce Pine

SPRUCE PINE – North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality Sec. Michael Regan was in Spruce Pine this past week to conclude a three-day trip to Western North Carolina that included stops in Avery, Mitchell, McDowell and Rutherford counties.

Hale named CEO of Blue Ridge Regional

SPRUCE PINE – After Blue Ridge Regional Hospital CEO Becky Carter announced she is leaving the hospital in the near future, Mission Health announced Tonia W. Hale, DNP, MAOM, BSN, RN, is replacing her effective Dec. 16.
