Mitchell High girls’ basketball uniforms get fresh new look

LEDGER — The Mitchell High girls’ basketball team will be sporting an updated look during the upcoming shortened 2021 season.

The team announced via social media this past month that new uniforms were on the way for the upcoming campaign.

The uniforms are courtesy of Ripon Athletic, which the team is partnering with for the first time.

Unlike other companies like Under Armour or Nike, Ripon allows teams to custom make uniforms and order any quantity of jersey, rather than a whole set.

Mountaineers head coach Zack McCartha said this will allow for the team to more easily give jerseys to players to keep, such as the jersey they wear on senior night.

The new purple jersey is a familiar look, with block lettering on the front and a Mountaineer logo on the shorts. The white jersey is more of a “throwback style,” McCartha said.

The players were heavily involved in the design of the white, retro-styled uniform, he added.

“They’re pumped,” McCartha said. “They love them.”

The team will begin official organized practices on Monday, Dec. 7 as it prepares for the start of a shortened season that is slated to begin in January.

McCartha said that right now, the team is able to do shooting drills and other basic things, but full scrimmages can’t currently be held.

The players and coaches are also having to adapt to wearing face coverings at all times when in the building, something that has now become mandatory.
