BURNSVILLE — Mountain Heritage High senior Hannah Tipton has finalized her plans to play college basketball on a full-ride scholarship at Western Carolina University after graduation.
Tipton is the granddaughter of the late Wade Tipton who served as Mitchell County Recreation Director from 1998 to 2010.
The baseball field in Bakersville next to Gouge Elementary that is home to Mitchell County recreation league baseball games is named after Wade Tipton.
Tipton’s great grandmother Ruby Tipton is 103 years old and resides in Mitchell County.
Hannah Tipton was the 2019 All-Western North Carolina player of the year for the 2019-20 season after averaging 19 points, 7.1 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 2.6 steals per game.
She was also tabbed Western Highlands Conference player of the year, North Carolina Basketball Coaches Association All-District 12 first team and third team all-state by the NCBCA for the 2019-20 season.
Hannah Tipton helped the Cougars to an undefeated state title during the 2018-19 season.
Tipton originally announced her signing via social media and officially put pen to paper on her commitment during a signing at Mountain Heritage this past November in front of friends, family, administrators and coaches.
