Tountasakis honored by North Shore Animal League at NYC gala

NEW YORK – The North Shore Animal League America, the world’s largest no-kill animal rescue and adoption organization, celebrated its 75th year of lifesaving work at its annual “Get Your Rescue On” Gala Friday, Nov. 15, at Pier 60 at Chelsea Piers in Manhattan.

‘Miss High Country’ pageant raises nearly $2K for Shop With a Cop

SPRUCE PINE – The Miss High Country Fundraiser Pageant was a day of fun and glamour to raise money for the Mitchell County Shop With a Cop program.  The pageant took place Saturday, Nov. 16, at the Robin Austin Memorial Center at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church.

Lottie Heaton Ollis, 95, of Spruce Pine, died Monday, Nov. 18, 2019, at the Mitchell House in Spruce Pine. Born Aug. 1, 1924, in Avery County, she was the daughter of the late Sam and Myra Burleson Heaton.
