  SPRUCE PINE – After closing all North Carolina schools, Gov. Roy Cooper announced in an executive order Saturday, March 14, the priority for each school district was to ensure all students were fed during the closure.

Timothy Greene hired as next county manager

BAKERSVILLE – The Mitchell County Board of Commissioners at a special meeting Monday, March 19, announced Timothy Greene as the new county manager.  Greene, a Mitchell County resident, has a degree in business administration from Mars Hill University.

Toe River Health District announces first confirmed case of COVID-19 in Mitchell County

  LEDGER – The Mitchell County Health Department, part of Toe River Health District, was notified at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, a Mitchell County resident has tested positive for novel Coronavirus, or COVID-19. The individual is in isolation.
