Election 2024: Candidate’s forums set

In preparation for the upcoming local elections, Mitchell County residents are encouraged to attend two critical candidate’s forums. These forums represent a prime opportunity for the electorate to engage with candidates, gain insights into their platforms, and ask important questions.

Gibbins Advisors, the Independent Monitor of HCA’s Mission Health System, has scheduled two crucial public meetings in February 2024. These forums are of paramount importance to the residents of Mitchell, Yancey, Avery, and McDowell counties.

Water woes plague town

Residents of Spruce Pine have recently navigated a series of water system pressure advisories following a spate of leaks attributed largely to frigid temperatures and the inevitable wear and tear on aging infrastructure. Clean water is a subject of paramount concern among its residents.

Community mourns loss of ‘Lainey Lou’

Yancey County and neighboring communities are mourning following the tragic passing of 18-month-old Cora Laine “Lainey Lou” Murdock, a child celebrated for her vibrant spirit and radiant smile.

Community support

Residents of Mitchell County are coming together to support one of their own. Troy Gouge, a sophomore at Mitchell High, is known for his fun-loving spirit and sweet nature. Troy was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS), a rare neurological disorder.
