SPRUCE PINE — The Spruce Pine Wells Fargo branch will permanently close on Feb. 10, the company confirmed.
The closing of the Spruce Pine branch will make the Burnsville Wells Fargo, which is roughly 12 miles away, the closest branch for local Wells Fargo customers.
There are also Wells Fargo ATMs in Spruce Pine (Grassy Creek), Newland and Marion.
“This is not an easy decision or one that we take lightly,” said Josh Dunn of Wells Fargo Corporate Communications. “We continually evaluate our branch network and make adjustments based on customer use, market factors, economic trends and competitor actions. This process leads to both expansion and consolidations.”
Wells Fargo will continue to operate the ATM in the branch parking lot until the company determines a new location for it.
The Spruce Pine Wells Fargo is on Upper Street across from Tropical Grill. Access to the lobby is limited right now due to the ongoing pandemic but the drive-thru is open.
“While branches continue to be important in serving our customers’ needs, we’re finding that more customers are often using our wide range of digital capabilities for many of their banking needs,” Dunn said. “As a result, more transactions are happening outside the branch.”
