Pelican's SnoBalls lands in Spruce Pine

Pelican’s SnoBalls has arrived in Mitchell County.  The chain that serves up New Orleans-style shaved ice in a myriad of flavors has come to Grassy Creek after Mitchell County’s Luke Stamey brought the brand into the building that used to house Terminix.

Town seeks grant for park improvements

Fitness Express will move to old Flick Video building

SPRUCE PINE — Fitness Express gym will soon be on the move.  The gym will soon transition from its current location at the Cross Street Commerce Center to the building that used to house Flick Video, next to Stamey’s Grocery on U.S. Highway 19E.

Grateful Girl Gathering set for March 20

SPRUCE PINE — A fresh, new kind of women’s conference is coming to Spruce Pine.  A Grateful Girl Gathering, a conference designed for a sisterhood of women that will feature times of study, worship, encouragement and fun, will be at the Cross Street Commerce Center on Saturday, March 20 from 9 a.m.

Southern Christmas Show delivers holiday spirit to vendors, community members

The holiday season arrived in full force at the Spruce Pine Southern Christmas Show on Saturday, Nov. 28.  The festival, which was held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Small Business Saturday held entirely online

SPRUCE PINE — Small Business Saturday in Spruce Pine marched on despite the ongoing pandemic but the festivities took on a completely virtual format.  Locals were encouraged to don their face coverings and shop small at Spruce Pine’s downtown merchants throughout the day on Saturday, Nov. 28.

Local story trail aims to combine literacy and movement

In a new, collaborative endeavor, visitors to Spruce Pine Riverside Park can now follow a story trail to brighten up their walk around the park.

Mission Health’s newest Mountain Area Medical Airlift (MAMA) craft took its first tour of Western North Carolina this past week, with stops at several of the communities it will serve, including an appearance on Tuesday, Nov. 17 at Spruce Pine Blue Ridge Regional Hospital.
