Orlie Rathbone
Orlie James Rathbone, 92, of Cane Creek Road, Bakersville, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2019. He was a native of Mitchell County and a son of the late George and Bessie McKinney Rathbone. He was retired from American Thread Company and was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in World War II in France and Germany. He was a member of Roan Mountain Baptist Church and enjoyed The Mitchell County Senior Citizens Center.
Survivors include his daughters, Cynthia Rathbone Burleson (Ronald), of Bakersville, and Michele Carroll (Joe), of Spruce Pine; five sisters, Trula Gardner, of Bakersville, Georgia Riddle, of Burnsville, Rosalie Ledford, of Spruce Pine, Brenda Freeman, of Marion, and June Frye, of Spruce Pine; two stepchildren, Becky Manfull and Alan Jones; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Allen, Jacob Carroll and Michaela Carroll; and four step-grandchildren, Amy Tapp, John Manfull, Alma Lee Shumate and Alana Huston.
He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by his wives, Rose Young Rathbone, and Maxine Johnson Rathbone; sisters, Gladys Jones and Cleo Wilson; and brothers, Emory Rathbone and Wilkie Rathbone.
Funeral services were 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, 2019, at Roan Mountain Baptist Church with the Rev. Russell McKinney and the Rev. Mark McKinney officiating. The family received friends two hours before the service. Interment was 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, 2019, at Green-Young Cemetery with the Rev. Tim Fowler officiating. Military Honors were provided by Sgt. E.L. Randolph Chapter 57 DAV.
Henline-Hughes Funeral Home assisted the Rathbone family.
