The Mitchell News-Journal welcomed new editor Mariel Williams to its staff last week.  Williams is an experienced journalist with a diverse background. Growing up in Yancey County, William’s journalism aspirations began with a desire to write as a child.

The newly renovated Brad Ragan Park in Spruce Pine officially reopened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a host of community activities. Parks and Recreation Director Michael Wood outlined the extensive updates made to the park, emphasizing the significant improvements.

Piedmont Natural Gas is conducting routine infrastructure maintenance near 2490 US-19E in Spruce Pine. The scheduled work will take place on three separate occasions in May and June, weather permitting. Upcoming maintenance dates include: June 4–12 (weekdays only) and June 20-27.
