SPRUCE PINE — Small Business Saturday in Spruce Pine will take on an entirely new format this year due to the ongoing pandemic.
In lieu of the traditional festivities, Small Business Saturday in Spruce Pine will take place completely virtually on Saturday, Nov. 28 from 5 to 6:15 p.m.
The evening of activities will kick off with a virtual reading of The Polar Express narrated by “Conductor Bruce” live on the Spruce Pine Main Street Facebook page at 5 p.m.
Winners of the Fraser fir Christmas tree drawing will be announced after storytime at 5:30 p.m., also live on Facebook.
During the month of November, all who make retail purchases in downtown Spruce Pine will be eligible for the drawing to win a tree.
To participate, place receipts from any downtown purchase during the month of November into Santa’s bucket, which is in front of the Visitor’s Center.
Eligible receipts must have a name and phone number clearly listed.
Multiple receipts may be entered but there is a one tree limit per person or family.
Trees will be available for pickup on Monday, Nov. 30 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Following the announcement of the tree winners, the ugliest sweater contest winner will be crowned live on Facebook at 5:45 p.m.
Those who dress in their tackiest attire can submit photos to info@downtownsprucepine.com for a chance to win a Christmas stocking packed with goodies.
The virtual tree lighting streamed live on Facebook will cap off the festivities at 6 p.m.
Beginning on Monday, Nov. 16, participating merchants will also compete in the 2020 SPMS window decorating contest.
Visit the SPMS Facebook to view the entries from each participating business and hit “like” on your favorite window.
The window with the most “likes” will win. More details on the contest will follow.
