BAKERSVILLE – At the Mitchell County Public Library in Bakersville, we are looking forward to the return of Spring, and we plan to celebrate at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 24, by opening the Seed Lending Library.

Be sure to stop by for free seeds, and visit with neighbors. You may meet new friends and share gardening tips with others.

Steps to borrow seeds

1. You will need an AMY Regional Library card to check out seeds.

2. Choose your seeds.

3. Feel free to take seeds from any category, even if you are a beginner seed-saver, but please only take as many seeds as you have space for in your garden.

4. Grow your plants.

5. In the fall, harvest your seeds.  Be sure to dry them thoroughly and store them in a cool, dry and dark place.

6. Return your seed to the library. This will keep our drawers well-stocked and our community of gardeners happy with their results.

Tuesday, March 24, will also be the end of our Winter Reading Challenge “BOOK BINGO.”  For those that have participated, we will be drawing for the prizes on that day.
