Christian non-profit Carolina Cross Connection is providing free aid to those in need in the region by performing home improvement projects at no cost.

Carolina Cross Connection Camp Director Justis Mitchell has guided his group of volunteers in the completion of projects in Mitchell and surrounding counties. The organization is based in Gastonia and works throughout the community, especially near Banner Elk.

While Carolina Cross Connection has many areas of non-profit work, Mitchell and his crew specialize in home improvement.

“We take in youth groups for a week at camp and while they are at camp, we send them out to do different projects,” Mitchell said.

The group undertakes a variety of projects including construction wheelchair ramps, steps and porches and helping with yard work and painting.

“These services in the surrounding communities are completely free for the people we are serving with,” Mitchell said.

Mitchell and his crew were in Spruce Pine this past week, hard at work constructing a much-needed wheelchair ramp at the home of Mitchell County resident Sandy Biddix.

Mitchell added that his team is always happy to help.

“We take in different church groups and are always looking for more groups to take to camp and do work like this,” Mitchell said.
