There will be a clothing giveaway from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, at Cub Creek Baptist Church in Bakersville.

 

BLOCK Fest

The Blue Ridge Partnership for Children’s BLOCK Fest is 1:30-6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, and 9 a.m.-noon Saturday, Nov. 16, at Spruce Pine First Presbyterian Church. This is a free event. Book signing

A book signing and question-and-answer session with author Doug Caporrinno is 6-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, at United Community Bank in Burnsville. Healthy food from App Java and Laura’s Pizzeria will be served. Seating is limited. Call 828-682-6157 to reserve a seat.

 

Fundraiser pageant

The Miss High Country Fundraiser Pageant is a day of fun and glamour to raise money for the Mitchell County Shop With a Cop program. The pageant is 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, at the Robin Austin Memorial Center at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, 12021 US 19E in Spruce Pine. The entry fee is $25 plus one winter coat or a $20 Walmart gift card, with the proceeds going to the Shop With a Cop program. Health coverage event

Pisgah Legal Services in Spruce Pine is hosting an ACA marketplace open enrollment health coverage event from 3-6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 18, at the WAMY Community Action office, 496-A Balsam Ave. in Spruce Pine. Certified navigators will be available to provide education and enrollment assistance. Walk-ins are welcome, but an appointment guarantees a slot. Gingerbread House Contest

The Mitchell County Public Library’s Gingerbread House Contest begins Monday, Nov. 18. Entries will be on display until Monday, Dec. 16, when the winner will be chosen and announced. Call the Mitchell County Public Library at 828-688-2511 for more information.

 

Revival

Yellow Mountain Baptist Church is having a revival beginning at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 18, at 5125 N. US Highway 19E in Plumtree. The Rev. Lee Cope of Appalachian State University will be preaching.

 

Town hall

The Mitchell-Yancey Substance Abuse Task Force is hosting a town hall about underage drinking and vaping at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, in the Kathy Miller Auditorium at Mitchell High School. 

 

Storyteller

The Center for Pioneer Life is hosting storyteller Donald Davis for a performance at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, at the Burnsville Town Center. Doors open at 6 p.m. Davis will be having a Collect Your Memories in a Family Storytelling Workshop from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday,  Nov. 19, at The Center for Pioneer Life.
