SPRUCE PINE — The Pine Valley Motel is set to open under new ownership on July 14.

The new owner, Sam Patel has completed numerous upgrades and renovations in hopes of providing visitors with another option for a comfortable local stay minutes away from downtown.

The motel, located at 11827 S. 226 Highway in Spruce Pine, consists of 41 units and offers apartment-style lodging complete with a kitchen and living room area. Each room will have internet, cable and telephone service provided by Spectrum and AT&T.

The rooms are freshly painted and feature new white light fixtures installed by Patel and his father.

Parking is available in front of each individual unit, allowing guests to unload their belongings with ease. A picnic area that overlooks the creek is available as well, complete with a grill and sheltered by a gazebo.

Patel plans to have a playground built in the future with in-ground lighting in the hopes that families will feel invited to prolong their stays.

A large vacancy located in the center of the parking lot will hopefully host farmer’s markets, flea markets, live bands and more when the motel is up and running, said Patel and Mitchell County Economic Development Director Mickey Duvall.

Standard units are anticipated to initially cost $69 per night with apartment-style units running $89 per night.

“There is a lot of potential for this space,” Patel said. “There can be very good business here in the future as people come to stay.”

Duvall said that he is in full support of the motel’s new ownership and will do whatever he can to help with the opening and future promotion.

Patel is also considering working with the EDC to recruit a restaurant to lease the former coin laundry building, which faces the motel parking area.

“The EDC is willing to work with [Patel] hand-in-hand to help get this out and promote,” Duvall said. “We are honored to have [Patel]. We needed the 41 rooms.

“This is much needed for Mitchell. It will drive economic development. Great things are happening in Mitchell County.”

For pre-opening bookings, call 803-460-8195. A website will go live after the motel opens.
