Officers seize 60 pounds of marijuana during traffic stop

SPRUCE PINE — Officers from the Spruce Pine Police Department and Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office, with help from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, seized 60 pounds of marijuana on Monday, Aug. 16 during a traffic stop on NC Highway 226.

Officers stopped Andrew Scott Dohner of Conley Road in Bakersville and conducted a vehicle search. After recovering the large amount of marijuana, Dohner was arrested and taken to the Spruce Pine Police Department.

Dohner is charged with trafficking marijuana and is being held on $30,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 22.

Spruce Pine Police Chief Bill Summerlin said the bust is a product of his department’s commitment to crack down on the sale and distribution of illegal substances in the area.
