A multi-vehicle accident shut down a portion of NC-226 and injured three around 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 12.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol said three were injured after a Dodge truck driven by a 17-year-old male veered left of the center line and hit an oncoming 2000 model Toyota truck.

After the initial collision, the Dodge truck continued left of the line and hit a 2008 Toyota truck head-on.

The drivers of the Dodge and 2000 Toyota were flown to Asheville and treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries while the driver of the 2008 truck was treated for minor injuries at the hospital.

The driver of the Dodge truck was charged with driving left of center, NCSHP said.

The crash closed a portion of NC-226 for some time as the wreckage was cleared. Traffic was eventually redirected through Penland Road until the scene was cleared later that morning.
