Missing teen found in Ohio

A Bakersville girl was found in Ohio after an Amber Alert was issued for her over the weekend.

The Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office said that the missing 15-year-old had been found in a Facebook post in the early morning hours of Monday.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the teenager was reported missing at 11:05 a.m. Sunday. Family members said she had not been seen since 10 p.m. Saturday.

The Sheriff’s Office recruited help from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Mitchell County Emergency Management, Mitchell County 911 Communications, Fork Mountain Fire & Rescue, Bradshaw Volunteer Fire Department and others to find the girl.

Mitchell County Sheriff Donald Street posted an update on the search on Facebook Sunday evening.

“Officers are still out investigating social media and following leads,” Street said at the time. “This could be an event that could get someone in serious trouble and best to deal with early.”

The teen’s recovery was announced after midnight that night.

Although the missing teen’s name and physical description were publicly announced during the search, the Mitchell News-Journal is leaving her identity anonymous in order to protect her privacy, given that she has been found and is no longer in immediate danger.
