It’s the time of year when online travel guides name their top destinations and attractions and Little Switzerland is getting recognized.

OnlyInYourState.com tabbed Little Switzerland as one of the seven best downtown areas in small towns in the state.

“The backbone of the state is found in all of the small towns in North Carolina,” the post reads. “And we have so many to love.”

The list considers downtown areas that are “amazing” and “walkable” and also highlights Banner Elk, Black Mountain, West Jefferson, Bryson City, Blowing Rock and Dillsboro.

The Little Switzerland listing hails its handful of shops, galleries and dining areas as “top-notch, yet very down to Earth.”

The article also highlights the local motorcycle and sports car scene.

“For those who aren’t up for the curvy challenge, Little Switzerland sits right on the Blue Ridge Parkway, perfect for a slow, scenic drive,” it reads. “And has views from many parts of town that are unparalleled in any other nearby town.”

NCTripping.com also recently released its Best of North Carolina 2021 list. Little Switzerland earned a nod as the most underrated getaway, beating out runner-up Hendersonville and finalists Swansboro and Washington.

“The little mountain town is open seasonally but offers incredible views from the Switzerland Inn, as well as mouthwatering barbecue from the Switzerland Cafe and an adorable little bookstore,” the summary reads.

Other nearby spots earned places on the NCTripping list. Linville Falls earned a mention as the most beautiful waterfall and Grandfather Mountain State Park was named best state park.
