A man was killed last week while attempting to pass another vehicle on N.C. Highway 226 near Summit Avenue.
According to a Spruce Pine Police Department, on Nov. 19 Travis Lee Scott was traveling south when he attempted to pass a vehicle on the left while the second vehicle was occupying the center turn lane.
A pickup truck was traveling north at that time and collided with Scott’s vehicle. The driver of the pickup truck was injured and transported to Mission Hospital in Asheville.
“The driver of the passenger vehicle, Travis Lee Scott of Spruce Pine, tragically succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash,” Police Chief Kasey Cook said in the release. “Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the Scott family during this difficult time.”
Cook also thanked the various public-safety agencies that helped in responding to an investigating the crash.
