SPRUCE PINE — Online food ordering and delivery service DoorDash is now in Mitchell County.

DoorDash, which was founded in 2013 and has since reached more than 4,000 cities across the globe, allows users to order food online from participating restaurants through a free mobile app and have it delivered directly to their door.

DoorDash launched in Mitchell County on Sept. 14, said DoorDash communications associate Trent Hodson.

Spruce Pine restaurants KFC, McDonald's, No. 3 Grill, Dawg House and Gustoso Ristorante are the first local eateries to partner with the service. Additional restaurants continue to be added. See the mobile app for the full list.

“We encourage interested businesses to sign up for DoorDash,” Hodson said.

Drivers can also sign up to deliver for DoorDash but will be prompted for credentials including insurance and a valid driver’s license. Prospective drivers can sign up and find more information at DoorDash.com.

Interested restaurants can also find information online about partnering with DoorDash. The service offers several partnership options including a basic, plus and premier plan, all with varying percentages of pickup and delivery commission splits.

The DoorDash mobile app is free to download on iOS and Android. DoorDash adds a delivery fee to orders, charged separately from a driver’s tip.

“We are excited to launch our platform in Spruce Pine,” Hodson said. “Furthering our mission of growing and empowering local economies and making our services as accessible as possible to customers across the country.”
