SPRUCE PINE – A trio of Mayland Early College High School students discussed their educational experiences Thursday, Feb. 13, during the regular meeting of the Mitchell County Board of Education.
Agne Shields, Breanna Gormley and SeAnna Lovett all gave presentations about their experiences at MECHS and talked about their plans.
All three students will graduate with associates degrees and plan to attend universities to continue their education.
The students all raved about the quality of education at MECHS, their multiple opportunities to be involved in the community and how well they feel their school has prepared them for the future.
Board member Angie Burleson, who was the first principal at MECHS and part of the planning group that helped to make the school a reality, said the school is accomplishing its intended purposes.
“Our dream is fulfilled here tonight,” Burleson said. “This is why Mayland Early College High School became a reality – for folks like you. You’ve blessed my heart.”
Board Chair Brandon Pitman congratulated the students on their accomplishments and encouraged them to keep pushing forward.
“I know each of the teachers here has challenged you,” Pitman said. “The sky’s the limit. There will be bumps in the road, but don’t let it discourage you.”
