Bakersville man dies in Avery plane crash

A Bakersville man was killed in a small plane crash at the Avery County Airport/Morrison Field Friday.

James Webb,75, of Bakersville died when his small plane crashed and caught fire. Reportedly, Webb was the only person on board at the time.

The Aviation Safety Network, a service of the Flight Safety Foundation, reports that Webb was flying a Denney Kitfox 2 plane when it crashed. The organization describes the Denney Kitfox 2 as experimental.

According to ASN, the plane ran off the runway and crashed, and a fire erupted.

The cause of the accidents is still under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board.
