Villains fall to Mountaineers

Mitchell dominates with a 42-12 victory; will host playoff

The Mitchell High School Mountaineers entered Friday night’s matchup with a 7-4 record, facing the Bishop McGuinness Catholic High School Villains that stood at 9-1. But from the opening whistle, it was all Mountaineers.

Mitchell, in just the first quarter, jumped to a 20-0 lead before the Kernersville team could settle in. The pace never slowed, and the Mountaineers kept full control on both sides of the ball.

One of the highlight moments came from Isaiah Turner, who hauled in a clean, well-placed catch in the end zone to electrify the Mitchell sidelines and the home crowd.

Mitchell secured a commanding 42-12 victory. This marks the Mountaineers’ sixth win of the season by more than 29 points, showing just how explosive and dominant this group can be.

With the win, the Mountaineers advance to 8-4 on the season and will return home this Friday for a matchup against Mountain Island Charter.

Kickoff is at 7 p.m. Friday. Chris Pitman, statistician to the team, said the Mountaineers are hoping for a lot of community support.

“We need lots of Mountaineer fans filling the stands and wearing their purple and cheering for us,” Pitman said. “We will need all the help we can get this week in this all-important game.”
