The Mitchell High Mountaineer wrestlers ended their regular season on a high note with two impressive wins on Senior Night 2024. The Mountaineers secured victories against Hendersonville and Mountain Heritage, with seniors Austin Styles, Camron Cook, DJ Pugh, and Jayden Burleson going 8-0 on the night.
The Lady Mountaineers also closed their regular season on a winning note with an 18-12 win over Hendersonville.
The Mountaineers have been in excellent form lately, finishing off their regular season on a six-match win streak. With this victory over Heritage, they secured the number 2 1A seed from the Western Highlands Conference.
The team is now gearing up for the Western Highlands Conference Tournament, scheduled for to 5 p.m., Jan. 23, at Madison.
The middle school tournament has been rescheduled for Monday, Jan. 22 at Mitchell High School, and the first-round dual-team state playoff action will begin Jan. 27 at sites to be determined by the NCHSAA.
In addition to the impressive performance by the current team, the Senior Night celebration also included a special tribute to the 2013-14 State Championship team. Several members of that legendary team were present to share their memories and inspire the current team to strive for greatness. It was a night to remember for the Mountaineer wrestlers and fans, and a fitting end to a successful regular season.
