LEDGER – Mitchell High School Head Football Coach Travise Pitman has been selected as a Carolina Panthers/Toshiba Business Solutions Coach of the Week. Pitman was nominated for the honor by the Mitchell News-Journal.

Pitman and members of his staff will be honored with an in-game recognition at Bank of America Stadium Sunday, Dec. 15, during the Panthers’ 1 p.m. home game against the Seattle Seahawks. Each coach and one guest will receive Panthers tickets, pregame sideline passes, and a commemorative and personalized game football. Pitman will also receive a $1,000 donation from the Panthers and the NFL for Mitchell’s athletic programs

“The High Football Coach of the Week award is designed to recognize coaches who, through their hard work and dedication to young people and student-athletes, create successful football teams and players, both on and off the field,” said Cal Davies, community relations intern with the Carolina Panthers. “It is through your hard work and dedication that these young players will be able to develop their football knowledge, to succeed on and off the field.”

The Carolina Panthers have honored high school football coaches through the Coach of the Week program since 1997. Varsity coaches in North and South Carolina are eligible for the award, and winning coaches are evaluated on factors such as the coach’s impact on his team, the school and the community.

Coach of the Week winners are also eligible to be named Coach of the Year, which will be announced during the game on Dec. 15, and that honoree will receive an additional $2,000 for his or her school’s athletic program.
