This past Tuesday night marked the end of both boys’ and girls’ basketball seasons for the Mitchell High School teams.
Unfortunately, both teams lost their final games, with the boys losing at home to Mountain Heritage in the first round of the State Tournament, 69-56, and the girls losing on the road against Hiwassee Dam.
Despite the disappointing end to the basketball season, the Mitchell High School Baseball and Mitchell Middle School Soccer teams have just begun their seasons, and they’re off to a great start. In their first game of the season, the baseball team secured a victory against Swain County, winning 4-2 in a thrilling game. Although their next four games will be played away from home, the team is looking forward to returning to Mitchell on March 14 to play against the Freedom Patriots from Morganton.
In soccer news, the Mitchell Middle team, consisting of Bowman and Harris students, defeated Avery by a score of 6-1. The team’s strong performance is a reminder of how well a team made from both middle schools can be. As the baseball and soccer seasons continue, we wish the teams the best of luck.
