The Mitchell High varsity boys basketball team secured their first regular season title since 2009 with a nail-biting 69-67 victory over Avery on Feb. 13. The win ensured a share of the title and set the stage for a conference tournament.
All the Mountaineers’ varsity and junior varsity teams are gearing up for the conference tournament, with teams hoping to bring home the championship trophy. The tournament kicked off on Monday night with the #5 seeded Lady Mountaineers taking on #4 seed Madison.
On Tuesday, the #2 seeded and regular season Co-Champion Mitchell boys’ team will face off against NCSSM. Scores were not available at press time.
If they emerge victorious, they will play again on Thursday night, Feb. 22, at Mountain Heritage High School. All championship games, including Mitchell’s JV team taking on Mountain Heritage, will be held on Friday night, Feb. 23. Fans are encouraged to come out and support their local teams.
The Mitchell boys’ team has had a stellar season, notching up key victories against tough opponents. With their sights set on the conference tournament, the boys are hoping to continue their winning streak and bring home another trophy for the school.
