LEDGER — The Mitchell High School varsity volleyball team is still searching for its first win of the shortened season after dropping its first four games.
The Mountaineers opened the season with a 3-1 loss at home against Owen and followed with a 3-0 loss to Owen on the road just a few days later.
The Mountaineers then fell 3-0 at home to Madison and on the road against Mountain Heritage.
Mitchell traveled to Polk County (4-0) on Tuesday, Dec. 8. Results were not available at press time.
The Mountaineers now come home for two straight against Avery and Mountain Heritage before hitting the road for three straight at Madison, Smoky Mountain and Polk.
Mitchell is slated to close the regular season on Jan. 7 against Avery.
The Mountaineers are coming off of a 7-14 campaign in 2019.
Due to the ongoing pandemic, the North Carolina High School Athletic Association limited all volleyball seasons in the state to a maximum of 14 games. Additionally, there is a two-game limit per week.
