Mitchell volleyball celebrates Senior Night

The Mitchell Mountaineers volleyball teams took on the Avery Vikings last week for Senior Night, and the crowd showed up ready to cheer them on.

The junior varsity team started the evening strong, earning a solid win over Avery.

Varsity followed with a hard-fought match. The first set was a battle, with both teams trading points into the 20s before Avery pulled away to take it 25–23. The Vikings kept their momentum rolling through the next two sets to win the match in straight sets.

Even though the Mountaineers came up short, the energy in the gym stayed high all night. The student section, band, and fans packed the stands, showing big support for the team and especially for the seniors. Before the varsity game, Mitchell honored Piper Cook, the team’s only senior player, along with managers Alli McClellan and Emma Holden.

“It made it a memorable night for my last home game,” said Cook. “I just wanna thank all the fans, student section, and band for the support. I also wanna thank my coaches and teammates for making these last four years amazing.”

Junior Addison Gregory said that even with the loss, the night was one to remember. “Even though we lost, the environment was still fun and something new for the volleyball program at Mitchell,” Gregory said. “I hope the energy all the fans brought carries into next year, my senior season as well.”

The Mountaineers now turn their focus to the first round of the playoffs, where they’ll look to bounce back and keep their season alive.
